SUMMARY:D-Day 75th Anniversary - A Day of Remembrance
DESCRIPTION:75th Anniversary of D-Day Service of Remembrance – 11am 6th June\nAntony Estate is proud to host a Service of Remembrance on Thursday 6th June at 11am to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of D-Day. \n \nThe Service will take place in the morning\, in the quarry behind Broomhill Cottage Tea-Rooms.  The remainder of the day will be quietly dedicated to the memory of those that took part in one of the most remarkable Allied wartime operations. \nSeventy-five years ago\, some 10\,900 Troops of the 29th US Division were accommodated on the Rame Peninsula between Whitsand Bay and Plymouth Sound.  In the lead-up to the D-Day Landings\, many were billeted together with their equipment on the Antony Estate\, hidden beneath the trees. \nThen\, on 6th June 1944 they departed from the embarkation area at Jupiter Point\, destined for Omaha Beach. \nAntony Woodland Gardens\, Woodland Walks and Broomhill Cottage Tea-Rooms will be open as usual on Thursday 6th June.  If you would like to be part of this important day in history\, you are most welcome. \nThe peace and tranquility of the Gardens today belies the sheer scale of activity all those years ago. As we watch the bright\, new summer leaves sway gently atop the very same trees that afforded cover to those young soldiers\, we can but wonder at their bravery! \n  \n\nTo join this D-Day Service of Remembrance\, simply turn up on the day – no pre-booking is required. Head to the Broomhill Tearoom and we will direct you towards the quarry. \n
